Where Did Summer Go?I left Larry a note. “Now that it’s October, toss the flowers on the porch. Please do it on my day off, I can’t bear to watch.” I NEVER want the summer to end—-I’m a GARDENAHOLIC. I love my garden at home with all the vegetables & flowers, and I love to watch the planters at Jus Cookin’s flourish all summer. Okay, there are a few good things about the Fall. Foremost, I don’t “have to” eat a piece of raspberry cobbler every day—-it’s out of season. I’m going to miss the smells of Summer— lemons being squeezed into lemonade and the constant smell of peeling peaches—soon to become fresh peach cobbler. In Fall, those smells are replaced. As I sit in the office, I can smell apples and cinnamon cooking together. Steve’s sitting beside me on the phone ordering more pie tins and pumpkin pie ingredients for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Speaking of pumpkins, Larry heads up a pumpkin carving contest whereby every employee decorates a pumpkin for prizes and status. The competition is fierce! Be sure and stop by the week before Halloween and help us pick the winners! In November, the kitchen reminds me of an old-fashioned bakery. Dough is continually rolled out for pie crusts, soon to have different pie fillings poured into them. It’s amazing how many homemade pies come out of our tiny kitchen in the month of November! Soon I’ll have to smell not only pumpkin & spices, apples & cinnamon, but strawberry & rhubarb, too. Ah, it’s a tough job, but somebody has to be the taste-tester! When December blows in, customers plan holiday gatherings here, and we get to meet their families visiting from other towns. This enables us to match the faces to the stories we’ve heard throughout the year. And Larry and Steve always plan a great meal for our employee Christmas party. Every year, the employees plot to try and find out what will be on their menu. But, try as they may, the secret never gets out. One thing is for sure, it’s always guaranteed to be delicious. Okay, so I’m reluctantly glad Larry tossed the flowers. It’s time for the change of seasons and all the tricks and treats that accompany Fall. Excuse me while I go taste some of that apple cobbler…Char Featured Desserts

Carving jack-o-lanterns is one of the most enjoyable and creative customs of the Fall season. Besides creating a spooky decoration, you can turn this event into yielding a tasty snack. Roasted pumpkin seeds have a wonderful nutty flavor and can be easily adapted to your own favorite flavors. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees, rinse clean, and pat the seeds dry. Heres the base recipe:
